Summary:A parturient with severe talcosis-induced, bullous emphysema presented for urgent cesarean delivery. Respiratory effects of anesthesia, positioning for delivery and residual effects of postoperative analgesics all potentially affect the choice of anesthetic technique and drugs used in a patient with severe emphysema. This parturient was given epidural anesthesia for delivery and postoperative analgesia maintained with epidural infusion of bupivacaine and clonidine.
