Summary:Long endurance underwater platforms are needed for wide area surveys such as the research into the global change, ocean-trench earthquake, and biodiversity and the explorations of ocean resources. We have succeeded in developing a new concept PEFC system prototype for the underwater platforms. This high efficiency PEFC developed by MHI runs with 60 % of efficiency at an operation point. This closed-cycle fuel cell is not equipped with humidifiers and blowers, being downsized and power saving. Function tests and a 1000-hour endurance test were successfully completed in last November.
