Evaluating failures of polymer insulators in Brazilian distribution networks

Investigations aiming to evaluate cause of failure of polymeric insulators used in Brazilian distribution networks reveal that it is not the presence of internal voids in their bulk but the fissures formed in the vicinity of insulator pins during their installation that cause the failure.
