Summary: | The dehydration and desulfuration processes of hydrous magnesium oxysulfate (MOS) whisker are studied. The morphologies of the hydrous, anhydrous, dehydrated MOS whiskers, as well as MgO whisker is determined by their scanning electron micrographs. The dehydration and desulfuration processes of the whiskers do not change the apparent morphologies of the whiskers. Three kinds of whiskers, anhydrous, dehydrated MOS and magnesium oxide whisker performs good reinforcement function when they are used in composites. Since there is no crystal defects in the anhydrous and dehydrated MOS and magnesium oxide whiskers, the whiskers should show more superior intensifying performance in composite material such as plastic, rubber or resin. |
