Test beam results of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter prototype modules

The pre-series modules of the future ATLAS liquid argon electromagnetic calorimeter (the LHC project) have been tested in 1999–2000 with electron beams at CERN SPS. Detailed results of these tests are presented, including the performance of ATLAS-like electronics. Energy resolution of better than 9....

Summary:The pre-series modules of the future ATLAS liquid argon electromagnetic calorimeter (the LHC project) have been tested in 1999–2000 with electron beams at CERN SPS. Detailed results of these tests are presented, including the performance of ATLAS-like electronics. Energy resolution of better than 9.5%/ E (barrel) and 10.5– 12.5% / E (end-cap) is obtained. Angular resolution measured ( ≃50 mrad / E , end-cap) also fits to physics requirements.
