Summary:Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) are the best known cetaceans in the world. They are distributed in tropical and temperate regions, both in coastal and oceanic habitats, mainly close to shore. In the Gulf of Mexico, it is the most widespread and common species of marine mammal. This species is of great ecological importance since it is a top predator occupying one of the highest trophic links of the marine food web, influencing the community structure and responding to changes in the environment. Here, Nah-Balam et al examine the bottlenose dolphin habitat in the Gulf of Mexico.
