Summary:Stories that matter, women in strong roles, explorations of the mysteries of humanity--and filmmakers with a cause--have kept audiences coming to Park City in the mountains of Utah for three decades. Screen icon, actor, producer, director, and Natural Resources Defense Council trustee Robert Redford's annual Sundance Film Festival (SFF) is unmatched in the world of independent film. SFF, that supports the impact of film, promotes the role of the arts in culture, and demonstrates that stories cross borders and ways of thinking, has become a hotbed of industry reps looking to make deals and marketers pushing a myriad of products to celebrities and film fans. The SFF 2011 received more than 3,800 submissions from which 118 feature-length films were selected for screening, representing 29 countries and 40 first-time filmmakers. Valenti features several films screened at SFF 2011 where blends of fiction, imagination, and romance bring science to screens.
