Summary:The charge spectrometer developed by Snell et al.needed a large amount radioactivity(a few Ci)in order to study chemical effects of nuclear transformations in gases. In this report we have described a highly sensitive charge spectrometer equipped with a quadrupole mass filter to detect ions after nuclear decay. This apparatus could decrease the amount of radioactivity required in each experiment. Tritiated ethanol(CH3CHTOH)and water(T2O)were studied with this charge spectrometer.
