Summary:The effect of the electrocrystallization conditions on the microstructure and growth direction of a nickel coating obtained from acetate-chloride nickel-plating electrolytes was considered. The distribution of the forms of complex ions in solution was evaluated using a mathematical model. The positively charged species in the electrolyte amounted to 18–31%, which significantly affected the mass transfer. An increase in the concentration of acetate ions promoted the formation of Ni(CH 3 COO) + and Ni(CH 3 COO) 2 and decreased the content of free nickel ions in the electrolyte, leading to a decrease in polarization and shifting the polarization curves toward higher electropositive values. The structure of the coating is most strongly affected by variation of current density, but not of electrolyte composition.
