Summary:We report on the catalytic activity of SHS-produced cobalt-alumina catalysts for dry (carbon dioxide) reforming of methane. The catalysts were prepared from Al-Co 3 O 4 powder mixtures at several processing conditions. XRD data, Fourier transform IR spectra, and SEM-EDS data suggest that the catalysts consisted predominantly of spinel and mixed oxides but with a strongly distorted atomic structure. Catalytic tests for dry reforming of methane to produce syngas were carried out at temperatures up to 900°C and chromatographic analysis showed that carbon dioxide conversion approached 88% whereas conversion of methane reached 100%. The hydrogen to carbon monoxide ratio in the syngas produced varied from about 1.1 to over 2, depending on material and testing temperature.
