Summary:This work is an illustration of a narrowband optical filter device based on cladding modulated grating waveguide for enhancing the device performance in terms of minimizing the bandwidth. The device parameters are optimized through Taguchi approach. Tolerance analysis of device parameters has been done to analyze their effect on the device’s response. The best parametric combination for maximizing the response of the device has been predicted using orthogonal array, signal to noise ratio, and analysis of variance method. The device is simulated using Eigenmode expansion method. The obtained filtering characteristics of the device showed a bandwidth of 0.38 nm. The proposed device is therefore, suitable for multiplexing and sensing applications.
