Summary:We have analyzed known experimental results on the formation of periodic structures in condensed media under the action of a series of femtosecond linearly polarized laser pulses. The found examples of the formation of spatial periods of structures with a scale smaller than the diffraction optical limit in the condensed medium have been interpreted in terms of a nonlinear mathematical model, a one-dimensional unimodal logistic mapping that describes how a change in the period that is multiple of two depends on the changing control parameter.
