Summary:A new species of the black fly, Simulium (Nevermannia) izuense sp. nov., is described on the basis of samples collected from the Izu Islands, Tokyo, Japan. This new species is assigned to the feuerborni species-group of the subgenus Simulium (Nevermannia), and is very similar to S. (N.) sasai (Rubtsov), but is easily distinguished from the latter species by the pupal gill with a short stalk of the ventral paired filaments, the simple cocoon without any anterodorsal projection, and the short thumb-like secondary lobules of the larval rectal organ.
