Summary:This issue reflects thoughtful, theoretically and empirically grounded discussion of the merits and limitations of different approaches to treatment relative to the stated or anticipated objectives of the diverse specific stakeholders in mental health. The papers elucidate what each approach is, is not, and might embody, or become. Collectively, they offer a much needed antidote to the already apparent germination of seeds of something perniciously akin to “schools” if not “doctrines” and of allegiances to one or another approach.
