Symmetric tangential stiffness formulation for non-associated plasticity

A numerical scheme is proposed in which the response of a material with non-associated flow rule is made equivalent to that of a material with associated flow rule and a modified stress/strain direction dependent hardening/softening rule. Summary:A numerical scheme is proposed in which the response of a material with non-associated flow rule is made equivalent to that of a material with associated flow rule and a modified stress/strain direction dependent hardening/softening rule. The scheme has obvious computational advantage since finite element programs with tangential stiffness formulations can be used without resort to non-symmetric equation solution routines.
