Summary:Leslie Curry (Les to all who knew him) was a distinguished scholar, whose status was recognized by his receipt of the International Geographical Unions Laurat dHonneur in 2000 as well as awards for scholarly distinction from both the Association of American Geographers (1969) and the Canadian Association of Geographers (1977). His standing largely reects his theoretical work in economic geography and on settlement patterns, almost all of which was conducted while he was at the University of Toronto, but there was an earlier Les, a climatologist, working mainly in New Zealand, who is much less well-known, though his work then was just as pioneering and had major links into his later interests.
