Summary: | This special issue, entitled “Transmedia Adaptations of Literary ‘Classics’ in 20th–21st-Century Artistic Expression,” comes out of a two-part seminar at the annual conference of the Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA) in March 2021. In the context of this seminar, our aim was twofold: if the first step was to explore the variety of transfers of literary works across media such as graphic narratives, films, television series, as well as video games, radio plays, and art installations, we then examined how the adaptation process and the transformations that occur through transmedial mobility allow us to think critically about the notion of the so-called “classic” in literature and the ordering principle it may support. |
