Summary:In 2023, it is 100 years after the introduction of Walsh functions and 50 years after the death of their introducer Joseph Leonard Walsh. This paper is an homage to J. L. Walsh and presents some insights into the development of Walsh and dyadic analysis with applications of Walsh functions in both mathematics and various areas of computing and engineering. The presentation is based on reminiscences of the authors acting in these areas.
