Summary:To assess the ecological state and anthropogenic transformation of the Taimyr soil cover, the composition and properties of soils in natural and technogenic landscapes were studied in the northwest of the Central Siberian Plateau and in the North Siberian Lowland. Highly skeletic lithostrats (Skeletic Technosols) and peat heavy loamy organolithostrats (Endoskeletic Technosols) were studied in technogenic landscapes; podburs (Spodic Cryosols), cryozems (Turbic Cryosols), chemocryozems (Toxic Turbic Cryosols), and cryohumus chemolithozems (Toxic Leptosols) were investigated in anthropogenically disturbed landscapes. Cryozems, peat cryozems (Histic Cryosols), peat gleyzems (Haplic Cryosols), as well as alluvial (Fluvisols), and alluvial gley (Gleyic Fluvisols) soils were studied in natural landscapes of the lowland. The Taimyr–Norilsk platinoid–copper–nickel province is located on Taimyr Peninsula. Therefore, soils in the Norilsk industrial region are initially or technogenically enriched in Cu, Ni, Co, Cr, and S–SO 4 . The following values (mg/kg of soil) of the bulk content of heavy metals and water-soluble sulfates are suggested as a regional background level: Cu 45, Ni 45, Co 15, Cr 80, S–SO 4 10 for the North Siberian Lowland; and Cu 75, Ni 90, Co 40, Cr 170, S–SO 4 20 for the Norilsk industrial region.
