Summary: | Bandshape expressions for the condensed phase absorption coefficient and dielectric constant which incorporate the Lorentz and Onsager-Bottcher local field models are presented and compared with experiment for four liquid-phase infrared bands. The principal difference between the two models is the predicted value for the integrated absorptivity. While this quantity varies by up to 10% between the two models, differences of the same magnitude occur within each model when fit to both the real and imaginary components of the dielectric constant. |
