Summary:The interface excitations associated with a p-n junction structure are studied by applying the hydrodynamic model. Using a Shockley model of the p-n junction, the problem is analogous to that of an electron plasma and a hole plasma separated by a depletion region. These excitations can be regarded as coupled modes whose components are the surface plasmons of the p and n interfaces. The dispersion relation of the coupled modes is calculated in the electrostatic limit for long wavelengths.
