Summary:A study was conducted to assess the potential of extracts from Ocimum gratissimum, Alstonia boonei and Garcinia kola to control crown rot disease in banana. Colletotrichum musae, Botryodiplodia theobrome, Fusarium moniliforme and Fusarium oxysporum were isolated from diseased crown rot tissues from fruits collected from the forest eco-zone of Ghana and used for this experiment. Each of the isolates singly, or in combination, was able to cause crown rot disease when inoculated into healthy banana crowns. In a bioassay, crude extract from leaves of Ocimum gratissimum showed consistent fungicidal activity against all four fungal isolates by producing zones of inhibition against them at 100 and 75% concentration. Garcinia kola showed fungicidal activity against Colletotrichum musae, Fusarium moniliforme and Fusarium oxysporum at 75 and 100% concentration while Alstonia boonei did not show any fungicidal activity against any of the fungal isolates.
