Summary:Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has been used to assess the degradation of paint coatings. However the technique finds limitations when the painting systems confer good protection since the impedance response is dominated by the capacitance of the paint. The period of time necessary to probe the paint resistance can be of several months, making the procedure tedious. In the present work painting systems containing UV-cured mid layers were tested by EIS in 3% NaCl solution at ambient and higher temperatures (50–70 °C). The results showed a strong consistence among the data achieved in the tests carried out at various solution temperatures and showed that the increase of temperature resolves differences in the various systems in relatively short periods of immersion.
