Summary: | An approximate single step method for analysing concrete structures with time varying strains and stresses is presented based on the principles of variational calculus. A detailed description of the method is made followed by examples on practical engineering structures with finite and infinite redundancies and loaded with external loads uniform temperature changes or temperature gradient across the section. Based on this method, the distribution of stresses and strains in concrete structures subject to self-equilibrating stress distributions is calculated. These distributions are produced from fictitious temperature changes and the real stresses are computed directly, so avoiding repeated calculations which is the main disadvantage of step-by-step methods. |
