Summary:Sea surface temperature is one of the important parameters in determining the area of fishing ground. On the sea surface temperature the events of thermal fronts and upwelling can be observed visually by processing satellite imagery data. Generally, the fishing ground is determined visually by the human operator through direct observation on the monitor (called visualization approach). However, visualization approach is very subjective and labor-intensive. In this study, we focused in determining the upwelling and thermal-front. A new approach is proposed, by extracting the feature from satellite imagery data and using contour matching, can be determined whether the events of thermal fronts and upwelling have occurred. With this approach the process of visualization is not needed anymore because the computer can determine the location of the upwelling and thermal fronts without human operator intervention.
