Summary:The ethanol extract of the marine ascidian Syncarpa oviformis (Kuril Islands, Russia) has been shown to contain three indole derivatives, ethyl indolyl-3-glyoxylate (1), ethyl 6-bromoindolyl-3-glyoxylate (2), and ethyl 6-bromo-5-hydroxyindolyl-3-glyoxylate (3), along with p-hydroxyphenylglyoxylate, 2,6-dimethylheptyl sulfate and (3Z)-3-decenyl sulfate. The structure of the novel compound 3 has been elucidated on the basis of NMR, MS, IR and UV analyses.
