Summary:This paper is concerned with the interaction of parallel semi-elliptical surface cracks in a semi-infinite solid under tension. The problem is analysed by combining the methods developed by the authors in other three-dimensional crack problems. Numerical calculations are carried out for two to five cracks and for a periodic array of cracks, and the effects of the number, shape and spacing of the cracks on the stress intensity factors are discussed.
