Summary:To the Editor: Canelli and colleagues (March 10 issue) 1 provide an excellent video illustration of the use of eFAST (extended focused assessment with sonography for trauma) for the evaluation of traumatic thoracic or abdominal injury. The authors recommend sagittal scanning with the use of a curvilinear transducer for anterior thoracic views for pneumothorax detection, as illustrated in the video. The major advantage of sagittal scanning is confident recognition of the pleural line on the lung surface, which lies between adjacent ribs (and because of its winglike formation is known as the bat sign). 2 But sagittal scanning may limit the exposure . . .
