Summary: | Here is the appeal for the necessity for standardization of the optical fiber stripping process because commercial jacket cutters result in injury to the fiber surface. The probability of this fiber damage is about 10%, but the flaws cannot be detected before assembly, resulting in a supply of devices with low reliability to optical communication systems. The combined methods of mechanical and chemical removal of the jackets using a cutter of original design is proposed and shows a significant reduction of fiber damage.< > |
