Cytotoxic polyunsaturated fatty acid from Pediastrum

A polyunsaturated fatty acid isolated from a Pediastrum species was identified as (4 Z,7 Z,10 Z,13 Z)-hexadecatetraenoic acid. It inhibited the development of fertilized echinoderm eggs at a concentration of 25 μg/ml.
