Summary: | It is a great honour for me to have been invited to take part in this prestigious conference to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Justice Rosalie Abella. To me, she will always be 'Rosie.' We first met in London at a United Kingdom/ Canadian Legal Exchange at least fifteen years ago. I was in the Court of Appeal of England and Wales at the time. She had already been a justice of the Supreme Court of Canada for a number of years. It took little time for us to discover that we have much in common: a shared love of classical music, a strong consciousness of our Jewish identity, and a passion for justice and judging. The return visit of the UK delegation was to Ottawa. No arrangements had been made to feed us on the first evening. Rosie did not think much of that so she invited us all to her apartment and rustled up a meal for us. How typical of her warmth and kindness. |
