Summary: | Developments during the last 25 years in the insulation of rotating machines are reviewed. These developments have primarily been motivated by the need to make smaller machines which operate at higher temperatures to satisfy various specific requirements and to shorten the processing time. This has resulted in changes in materials for slot and coil insulations, as well as for wire enamels, and in new impregnating techniques.
