Summary: | A diagram is given of the waste treatment facilities at a chemical works in Argentina. Treatment included neutralization with sodium hydroxide, heating to destroy sodium hypochlorite, steam stripping to remove volatile organic compounds, coagulation, sedimentation, biological treatment by the extended-aeration process and chlorination. An account is given of the preliminary laboratory tests on the treatability of the waste waters and initial operating results of the full-scale plant are outlined. |
