Summary:Fishes under the genus Oxyeleotris are commonly known as sleeper gobies (Eleotridae: Butinae), being distributed widely across Asia in estuarine mangrove to near-shore marine benthic habitats. Presently, 17 valid species are recognized in the genus, none of which are previously reported from India. Present work reports the presence of Oxyeleotris urophthalmus , from the mangrove ecosystem of Sunderban Biosphere Reserve, as new records for India and the region and confirms the presence of the genus from Indian waters. Morphological data, coloration, and wild habitat are detailed for this new record.
