Summary:Summary Purpose of the Review In this article, we list the considerations that must be taken into account when planning for the correction of total astigmatism in cataract surgery. Recent Findings The preoperative evaluation of the patient who will undergo cataract surgery is essential to be able to predict residual refractive astigmatism. The accuracy of optical biometers, the consideration of using various keratometric measurements, and the use of recent mathematical formulas and strategies favor the prediction of the result to choose a corrective strategy for pre-existing astigmatism. Conclusion Given the information provided by modern calculations to predict final astigmatism, it can be said that every patient deserves astigmatism correction until it is shown that the final residual refraction does not require any special maneuver or a toric lens.
