Summary:Binary phosphate glasses, specifically those in the PbO-P 2 O 5 system, have attracted considerable interest due to their distinct structural, thermal, optical, and electrical properties. However, the exact scientific question guiding research in this area remains underexplored. This study aims to investigate the role of PbO as both a network former and modifier in these glasses, providing insights into their synthesis, characterization, and potential applications. The melt-quench method is emphasized as a primary technique for producing glasses with controlled compositions, allowing for tailored properties. Structural analysis using FTIR and XRD techniques are employed to understand how PbO incorporation alters the phosphate network, influencing properties such as density, molar volume, and optical behavior. Additionally, this paper explores the development of composites and thin films based on binary phosphate glasses, with a particular focus on their promising applications in solar cells, flat-panel displays, and thermoelectric devices. Through a comprehensive review of the current research and the identification of gaps in knowledge, this work seeks to advance the optimization of binary phosphate glasses and their integration into emerging technological applications.
