Summary:The operation of a laser on metastable rare gas atoms with a transverse diode pumping is investigated theoretically. For not too small reflection coefficient of the output mirror, an analytic solution is obtained, which makes it possible to determine exhaustively any laser energy characteristics and to find optimal parameters of the working medium and pump radiation, which are required for the most effective laser operation.
