Summary:The paper demonstrates the possibility of occurrence of thermokinetic oscillations during the methane oxidation on a nickel industrial catalyst at real values of the parameters. It is shown that reaction rate oscillations can originate under the conditions of short contact times and in the region where periodic oxidation–reduction processes do not occur. The origin of these thermokinetic oscillations is the periodic blocking of the surface with carbon and its cleaning by removing carbon from the catalyst surface.
