Summary:— The procedure of preparation of laboratory compression test for acquisition of data for plotting the isothermal flow curve of a deformed material is described. A feature of this procedure is determination of the strain rate with consideration of the features of the testing machine. The object of study is a cylindrical specimen of the AMg6 aluminum alloy with predetermined H 0 / D 0 ratio. Data on barreling have been obtained, as well as on selection of the H 0 / D 0 size ratio of the initial specimen providing a constant strain rate and shape change without destruction. The data obtained are taken into account upon determination of the technological properties of deformed materials used in the development and investigation of poorly studied technologies of metal forming: isothermal forging and forging with torsion of aluminum alloys.
