Summary:The modern application of electric propulsion is analyzed. It is concluded that Hall and ion thrusters, which are based on the generation of low-temperature plasma, are most widely used worldwide. The analysis of the main scientific and technical problems facing the development and improvement of thrusters of these types are analyzed and the methods by which practical problems are currently being solved in the absence of detailed and comprehensive physical and mathematical models, are described.
