Summary:The results of a comparison of the autocorrelation functions of coherent transition radiation, which are obtained experimentally using the microtron of Tomsk Polytechnic University and by simulation methods, are discussed. The conditions of the experiment and the mathematical basis of the simulation are described in detail. The comparison shows good agreement between the experimental and simulated data. It is demonstrated that the autocorrelation function of transition radiation depends on the temporal structure of the electron beam and can be used as a precision method for measuring the delay time between electron bunches.
