Use of 4-carbo-substituted isoxazoles in the polyhydroxylated chain extension of 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D-glyceraldehyde

An easy and efficient route has been developed for the extension of the polyhydroxylated chain of 2,3-O-isopropylidene-D-glyceraldehyde. This method consists of the cis-dihydroxylation of the double bond existing in several 4-alkenylisoxazoles synthesized for this purpose.
