New fused indole derivatives from lactam-containing m-cyclophanes

Reactions of lactam-containing m-cyclophanes with N-bromosuccinimide led to new fused indole derivatives via intramolecular cyclization. The reaction, however, does not proceed with N-protected lactam functionality in the bridging ring.
