Summary:The basic electrical parameters of bilayer lipid membranes are capacitance and resistance. This paper describes the application of chronoamperometry to the determination of both parameters. The experiments were performed on lipid bilayers formed using the painting technique. Phosphatidylcholine was chosen for the study because it fulfill essentials functions in living organisms. Based on chronoamperometric curves and mathematical equations, a method of the membrane capacitance and the membrane resistance calculations is presented.
