CPW-Fed Penta-Band Slot Dipole Antenna Based on Comb-Like Metal Sheets

A penta-band coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed slot dipole antenna with two comb-like metal sheets is proposed in this letter. Each operation band is controlled by a respective resonant path, and this results in high design freedom. The penta-band antenna operates at 1.88 (f 1 ), 2.34 (f 2 ), 2.70 (f 3 )...

Summary:A penta-band coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed slot dipole antenna with two comb-like metal sheets is proposed in this letter. Each operation band is controlled by a respective resonant path, and this results in high design freedom. The penta-band antenna operates at 1.88 (f 1 ), 2.34 (f 2 ), 2.70 (f 3 ), 3.08 (f 4 ), and 3.60 GHz (f 5 ). The 6-dB fractional bandwidths are 17.68%, 8.66%, 5.59%, 11.61%, and 5.27%, respectively. The proposed antenna achieves a nearly omnidirectional radiation H-plane pattern, and the antenna peak gain is from 5.37 to 6.46 dBi. Although this letter describes a general design idea, it should be noted that the operation band frequencies could be easily tuned for commercial wireless communication systems, such as PCS, WLAN, WiMAX, and LTE.
