Summary: | This is a report of two cases of a dislocation of the knee with the compound fracture of the femur and tibia. One, a 28-year-oldman, was thrown from his motor-cycle when trying to avoid a sign post. He sustained a postero-lateral dislocation of the left knee, and a displaced compound fracture of the medial femoral condyle. The other case was a 49-year-old man who sustained a lateral dislocation of the right knee associated with a compound fracture of the proximal end of the tibia. Open reduction and internal fixation were performed on both cases. One patient could perform all daily activities and complained of no pain. But his range of motion of the knee was restricted to 60° of flexion. The other had a peroneal nerve palsy of which the fuction had returned after exploration. He developed osteomyelitis of the proximal end of the tibia three months after surgery. He was treated by a curettage of the wound, and cephalosporin therapy have been continued. |
