60-GHz RoF System for Dispersion-Free Transmission of HD and Multi-Band 16QAM

Summary:A simple and low-cost 60-GHz band radio-over-fiber system for simultaneous transmission of high-definition (HD) video and multi-band 16QAM data is proposed and demonstrated based on a dual-polarization binary phase-shift keying (DP-BPSK) modulator. Based on a single DP-BPSK modulator, frequency upconversion of the HD video (baseband, 1.5 Gb/s data-rate) and multi-band 16QAM data (3 and 5.5 GHz, 4.8-Gb/s data-rate each) to the 60-GHz band is performed, and chromatic dispersion compensation of the 20-km fiber link is also realized. A proof-of-concept experiment is carried out. Real-time video display and error-free data demodulation are successfully achieved.
