Summary:The atmospheric radio emission fluctuations which are a significant limiting factor in cosmic radio source observations at cm and mm wavelengths are frequently suppressed by the dual-beam method, which involves the differential reception of the signal from two, slightly different, directions. This method, which is currently undergoing development, as well as novel methods which may overcome present limitations on the sizes of sources under observation, are evaluated. The novel methods may collectively be characterized as those of atmospheric noise suppression by means of high-frequency filtration.
