Summary:A pumping scheme was proposed to enhance the power conversion efficiency of thulium-doped fibre amplifier (TDFA). A Raman resonator and S-band amplifying module along with a dual wavelength Raman fibre laser were implemented in the pumping scheme. A fusion coupler was used to split the pump power to launch it forward and backward and to ensure high power conversion efficiency. It is reported that addition of a second pump wavelength achieved gain-shifted TDFA with improved efficiency.
