Investigations of Nonlinearities and Multiple Exposure Anomalies of Shielded Cables at CASINO

Summary:Photon tests of several types of cables, performed at the CASINO facility, provide benchmark data on high dose effects in cable response to direct-injection currents. Shielded hookup wire response was found to be linear with dose up to 50 krad (CaF2) in vacuum. The cable response in air was opposite in polarity from response in vacuum and of comparable magnitude. A slight, anomalous, first-shot response was observed in a semirigid coaxial cable sample where the direct injection is normally small. Calculations performed with the MCCABE code compare well with measured response.
